very good chapter. A thought-provoking debate on the relationship between mental

health, mental well-being and mental illness carries on nicely from the introduction.

The author looks at the social construction of mental illness and how this has led to the

current preoccupation with individual pathology, and stresses the idea that mental illness

can be seen as a normal response to the circumstances in which people live their lives."
